OHMI offers five levels of string instrument/orchestra classes.
Young Strings is a Suzuki-style class for 5 – 9 year olds to learn to play the violin along with their parent. Classes include a short private lesson time, as well as a group lesson time. The parent and the student must have a violin.
Beginning Orchestra is the class for students who are just beginning with a string instrument. They will learn music reading, how to hold & play their instrument, and ensemble skills. No previous music experience is required. This class functions as a group lesson. Students must be 9 turning 10 years old to take this class.
Intermediate Orchestra is the class for the second year string student. They will continue to work on developing their technique, music reading & sight-reading and ensemble skills.
Philharmonic Orchestra is for the third to fifth year student, playing more advanced music, sightreading, and ensemble skills. This group may attend MSBOA Solo & Ensemble Festival. Students must do a placement audition to be in Philharmonic Orchestra.
Symphony Orchestra is a high school level group that plays more difficult music. Symphony attends Band & Orchestra Festival. Students must do a placement audition to be in Symphony Orchestra.
