Varsity Music Letters

In recognition of the achievement and performance proficiency that each student reaches through practice and development of their musical skills, OHMI awards a varsity music letter to deserving high school students.  Evidence of the performance proficiency and achievement are displayed through OHMI concerts, OHMI related festival performances, other performances and technique building experiences/activities.

Procedure: Students will earn their “letter” by accumulating the needed number of points to reach each level of the program.   The points are designed to allow students who are minimally involved to achieve the Varsity level by the end of their high school career if they participate in ensemble(s) all four years of high school.  The program will also recognize the motivated, high achieving student. Points are not earned until the activity is completed. Use the link below to download the Varsity Music Letter worksheet. Worksheets must be turned in on a yearly basis beginning with the student’s freshman year. Applications will not be accepted the senior year for all 4 years it creates an undue burden for the office staff, and worksheets will be more accurate if submitted yearly. Applications should be submitted yearly even if students do not have enough points yet for an award.

Varsity Letter Jacket

If, after earning a Varsity Letter, students are interested in obtaining a letter jacket, parents (or students) may purchase one.  They are OPTIONAL, as are varsity letters.

The guidelines for the OHMI letter jacket are below, and were designed in conjunction with the OHMI varsity letter. You may purchase your letter jacket from any company you choose as long as it follows the guidelines. We encourage students to add other activities they are involved in (dance, sports, etc.) to their jacket when personalizing them.

Other ideas for the varsity letter is to put it in a shadow box with other pins & awards, or keep it on your wall or in a scrapbook.
